Fun
a.k.a.
Servanthood
On most fourth Sundays of the month at 10:45 AM, we gather for our fun monthly servanthood project, Rice and Beans!
If our congregation has learned anything from Jesus, it's that a big part of being at Peace is feeding people.
We have a very strong ministry partnership with the West Valley Community Food Pantry, located on the campus of our sister congregation, St. John's Lutheran Church, in Glendale.
As far as we know, we are the only are congregation that packs rice and beans every month for the Food Pantry.
Every month we pack 800 lbs. of rice and beans!
We bring lots of other food and monetary donations for the Pantry with us on fourth Sundays.
We pack rice and beans in our fellowship hall.
We like to serve in lots of other ways, too!
Every quarter, the members and friends of our congregation sign up to serve at the 9:30 AM service as assisting ministers, readers, Communion ministers, or ushers.
Many of us serve in the choir, the band, and other music groups on Sunday mornings.
Some of our members and friends sign up to lead Godly Play for the children or to serve as godparents for the youth during youth group at 10:45 AM. Others sign up to serve coffee, refreshments, and food for the adults on second and third Sundays.
Our pastoral assistants make monthly visits to those who are not able to make it to worship and the food, formation, fellowship, and fun of Sunday mornings.
Each spring we participate in a Habitat for Humanity build as a member congregation of the West Valley Lutheran Coalition for Habitat.
We also have an Endowment Fund that allows us to support our mission partners around the world.
