Pastor's Al's Weekly Message

Thanks!

“Be strong, do not fear;
say to those with fearful hearts,
    “Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
    he will come to save you.”
...Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.  -  Isaiah 35

Grace and Peace be with All.

Thank you for your support of the Mission and Ministry of Peace Lutheran Church and our Preschool.  Thank you to all who made a special gift to support that mission on our first Giving Tuesday appeal.  If you weren't able to make the link (my apologies), I learned something about how our system works and hyperlinks, and if you would still like to give, fingers crossed, you can go to www.peaceaz.org and you will find online giving under the Quick Links.  Thank You.

This is a season of Giving, and we just got the Angel Ornaments for Apache Elementary School families.  We have been given 33 names and you can either contact the office, or we will have them on the tree for in-person worship on Sunday.

In addition, join me in celebrating that 130 Blessing Bags were distributed earlier this week to the families of Peace as we help them prepare for the Christ of Christmas.  They included a Reverse Advent Project Box for the West Valley Food Pantry (If you haven't gotten yours as yet, you can arrange to pick one upat Peace).

Speaking of the West Valley Food Pantry... our special Thanksgiving offering raised $3500 for it and the ELCA Hunger Appeal.  We will utilize the Hunger Appeal portion to jump start our giving for the Global Barnyard gifts (We help impoverished families secure livestock that will enable them to escape poverty.)

Coming up on December 13 we will have our Annual Congregational Meeting outdoors at 11 am.  In addition we will broadcast it on Facebook Live.  We recognize however we met would result in some people not being able to participate, but we felt this was the best compromise.  We will approve a mission spending plan for 2021 as well as receive news from our pastoral transition team.

People have been asking about Christmas Eve... we will be sending out a survey this week.  We are tentatively planning for two outdoor in-person services (as well as online) at 4 pm on December 23, and December 24.  Please respond to the survey so we can judge as to whether there is interest in such services.  Our children ministry is planning a special fireside experience at the same time for children if there is interest.

A big thank you to our Pastoral Assistants who have been making calls on our senior saints throughout the pandemic.  They are sending out Greeting Cards, and if you would still like phone calls you will need to respond back to them.(If you would like to have a penpal relationship with one of our youth, let michelle@peaceaz.org know of your interest.)

Don't forget to check out www.peaceaz.org for all the information regarding groups that are meeting and opportunities to serve.

Finally, we will continue to exercise caution and care in the midst of this pandemic.  We are experiencing another surge that is taxing our medical system.  While we will continue to have outdoor in-person worship on Sundays  at 10:00 am we do require the wearing of masks and maintaining social distance.  From what we can discern from the scientific community, such precautions make us as safe as any place where people might be in public.  That being said, we recognize there are risks, and that is why we will continue to offer worship online on Facebook (Heart of Peace) and YouTube (Pieces of Peace).

Advent is a season of hope... in a God who is with us.  May you experience the promise of God's presence in your life.  Amen.

Peace,

Pastor Al
