How to get involved at Peace

Get Involved

Get Involved

The church is not a building, nor is its programs; the church truly is the people.

At Peace we recognize that God's people are engaged in ministry and mission wherever we are.  Whether it be coaching your child's soccer team, making cards to share with those who are homebound, or gathering together for worship on a weekend.  We gather together in fellowship to be inspired and encouraged to put our gifts, talents, and passions to work for the sake of living into God's vision for the world.

When we say 'all are welcome at Peace' (and there is no asterisk), we recognize that there are seasons in our life when we need to be the recipients of unmerited love, and there are other times when we are to the instrument of such love.  In other words, membership is not a requirement for involvement.  If you see something you want to participate in, we invite you to simply 'show up.'  If you have an idea for something we could be doing, we invite you to 'speak up,' because we at Peace are committed to 'building up' God's vision for this world.

If there is an area of mission or ministry that interests you, you are encouraged to pray and then contact the staff member or leader who is responsible for that ministry area or team for more information.  If you don’t know who to contact, just email our office and we will either contact you or re-direct your inquiry to the correct person.

We encourage people to participate on the basis of your passion, personal interests and abilities, and time availability.  We offer you an opportunity to do more than simply 'go to church'" but to become the church for all those who are in need.

Please be aware the sessions below have been postponed until further notice.

What do I need to do if I desire to unite with the Mission of Peace?

Twice a year (Fall and Spring) we offer a three-week series of sessions called “Growing Disciples."  Everyone who is interested in connecting to this congregation as an active disciple of Christ is encouraged to attend either the spring or fall sessions.  This series of sessions will connect you with others as well as the vision, values, and mission of Peace.  We offer an introduction to the DNA of this congregation and our identity as Lutheran Christians.   It is our hope that by the end of these sessions, Peace will be more than a church, and more like a family.

Baptism is a formalized way of acknowledging the relationship we have with God and with the church, or the Body of Christ.  If you or your children have not been baptized, then you might be interested in this sacramental sign of God's love.  As Martin Luther said so long ago, Infant baptism is the greatest sign of God's unconditional love, because there is nothing an infant can do to say 'yes.'  We are simply recipients of this promise.

Every fall and winter we offer a two week session as an introduction to baptism.  This is required of all prior to scheduling a baptism at Peace.  The classes consist of an introduction to our understanding of baptism as well as a rehearsal in preparation for the celebration of the sacrament.  If you wish to sign up you can contact the church office by email or by phone, or if you have questions, please contact Pastor Al.

First Communion

The policy of this congregation is to offer Holy Communion to children as their parents determine their readiness to receive  the Sacrament. Children who plan to receive Holy Communion are asked to attend instruction with their parents. First Communion instruction is offered twice a year in the spring and the fall. Instruction includes three "hands-on" seminars along with activities for the home. If a child has not received instruction or communion by the fifth grade, they are encouraged to participate.

Children who already receive communion, even if they come from different Christian traditions, are welcome to take communion at Peace.  Children who do not receive communion and have not attended instruction are welcome to come to the altar and receive a blessing

confirmationPeace Lutheran Church offers a two-year training experience for 7th and 8th grade youth.  It is offered on Wednesday nights which, when completed, allows the student to affirm their faith before the congregation and be confirmed as an adult member of the church.  This two-year course of instruction is taught by the pastor, but parents are expected to be actively involved partners in the learning process.  Confirmation provides an opportunity to build a biblical and theological foundation for one’s faith, but even more importantly, they are invited to participate in a loving community that will support them through their adolescent journey.

Between the first and second year, we encourage youth to participate in a one-week camp experience at Mt Cross in Northern California.  The bonding between peers and leaders is critical to our effort to grow young disciples for Jesus.

For high school youth who join the church and have not yet been confirmed, there is the option to attend the regular Confirmation class or to do the course work through independent study with parental supervision.  For youth in 7th or 8th grade just joining the church, it is strongly suggested that participation in the Confirmation program takes place.  How this participation evolves can be determined in consultation with the pastor
